Carpet cleaner – clean carpets and upholstery deep into the fibres.
Carpets in homes, public buildings, hotels and restaurants, offices and retail outlets are subjected to wear and tear every day due to foot traffic and spills. Most of our machines work on spray extraction, during spray extraction, water is sprayed onto a floor covering under pressure, the dirt is dissolved and then immediately reabsorbed as dirty water. Thanks to the unrivalled vacuuming results and the low residual moisture of our range of carpet cleaners, carpeted areas can soon be walked on again. In combination with Karcher iCapsol technology, this process is also perfect for cleaning in between uses. Carpet cleaners are also ideal for deep cleaning upholstery and car seats, with the appropriate accessories, they can also be used for cleaning tiles and hard surfaces.
What spray extraction methods are available ?
Depending on the degree of soiling, time available and material type, spray extraction machines can be used in the below methods.
– One-step cleaning
With one-step spray extraction, the fresh water mixed with with detergent is sprayed into the surface under pressure, using the spray nozzle of the spray extraction machine. At the same time, the loosened dirt is vacuumed up immediately in the same work step with the suction nozzle of the machine as dirty water. This method is used for deep and interim carpet cleaning as well as for deep cleaning of upholstery.
– Two-step cleaning
In the two-step method, the cleaning solution is applied in sections in the first step using the spray extraction machine or a pressurised sprayer. After soaking, the dirty water is rinsed out again with the spray extraction machine and clean water. This method is particularly suitable for deep cleaning of heavily soiled carpets or upholstery.
– Combination method
With this method the carpet is wet shampooed with a detergent and a single-disc scrubber. The scrubber area is then thoroughly rinsed with clean water using the spray extraction method. Not suitable for upholstery.
How to achieve best results when cleaning a carpet or upholstered surface?
Thoroughly vacuum the surface to be cleaned to ensure that you remove all the larger particles of dirt from, the surface before using the carpet cleaner.
Why vacuum the area fist?
Spray extraction cleaners in the Professional category do not have filters, if you use a spray extraction cleaner to vacuum only (without spraying water down) the fine dust will enter the motor and eventually cause damage to the vacuum motor. The nozzles on spray extraction cleaner are also designed to remove the maximum amount of moisture from the surface, they are too narrow for some coarse dirt.
Which type of vacuum cleaner should be used to vacuum the surface?
A good quality dry vacuum cleaner or wet & dry vacuum cleaner can be used to vacuum the surface before using the carpet cleaner, either from our Karcher, Numatic or Vortex range. If you already have a vacuum cleaner that is great, you are on your way to getting a better cleaning result in combination with a spray extraction cleaner. If you don’t have a vacuum cleaner please click here to view our vacuum cleaner range.
Which textiles can be treated with a carpet cleaner?
All textile floor coverings whose substrates, adhesives or fixings are both colourfast and resistant to moisture and solvents are suitable.
You should test whether this is the case in an inconspicuous place, e.g. on the underside of an armchair or on the carpet under a cupboard. However, do not decide whether the carpet cleaner is suitable for your project until everything is dry again.
You should also check beforehand that the carpet backing and backing materials do not shrink or bleed in colour. Absorbent, mostly foamed substrates lead to longer drying times. The visible surface must, of course, be colourfast and consist of suitable fibre types.
Which chemicals should be used in a Carpet Cleaner ?
Only good quality, low-foaming chemicals should be used in our range of carpet cleaners, Karcher liquid carpet cleaner and Karcher Puzzi powder are specially designed for use in Karcher spray extraction cleaners and will not block the nozzles or damage the pump, when used in the correct dosages.
What is the best process for obtaining a good cleaning result with a carpet cleaner ?
1. Firstly, move any furniture, pot plants, etc. out of the area than needs to be cleaned, if they are light enough and small enough to move.
2. Vacuum the area with a good quality vacuum cleaner that has effective filtration to ensure that all the dirt and fine dust is retained in the machine and not allowed to escape back into the room.
3. Wet a colour-fast cleaning cloth and apply Karcher spot & stain remover to the cloth and dab stain from the outside in, repeat the process if necessary.
4. Prepare your carpet cleaner with the correct nozzle (carpet or upholstery nozzle) and add the correct dosage of Karcher Puzzi powder to the fresh water tank and mix it.
5. Switch on the pump only, and pre-spray the surface, a section at a time. The reason for the pre-spray is to apply the water with chemical to the surface to soften the fibres and allow the chemical to release the dirt. If you spray and vacuum straight away you are not allowing the water and chemical to do their job. Do not soak the carpet.
6. After pre-spraying the section as per point 5 above, switch on the vacuum motor with the pump and begin the spray extraction process. Starting in the furthest point from the door/passage/entrance, working towards the door/passage/entrance.
7. Once you have completed extracting the same section that you pre-sprayed you can start pre-spraying the next section. Once you have cleaned the entire area you need to rinse the remaining chemical out of the surface to ensure that it stays cleaner for longer, than if you left some chemical in the surface. This is a simple process, but very often is left out and is an important step to maximising the time between having to clean the surface again. Fill the fresh water tank with water only, switch the vacuum and water pump on and spray and extract.
8. If you have time, switch the vacuum motor on and pass over the entire surface with the correct nozzle to vacuum as much moisture as possible from the surface to shorten the drying time.
